Video: Annetta Cheek presents at European Commission: The US Plain Writing Act: Ensuring the citizen’s right to clarity.

This recording is a presentation by Annetta Cheek and was part of a webcast of the 2014 Clear Writing Conference held in Brussels, Belgium at the European Commission. The conference celebrated the European Union’s (EU) Plain Writing Awards. The video opens with William Robinson (Associate Fellow at the Institute of Advanced Legal Studies, University of London) introducing Annetta Cheek, who was then Chair of the U.S. non-profit Center for Plain Language. Dr. Cheek begins with an overview of the processes that led to the passage of the US Plain Writing Act in 2010, and then discusses the role that the Center’s “Plain Writing Report Card” for Federal Agencies is playing in turning the ideals of the Act into reality. She suggests that the report card concept may help other organizations implement plain writing programs. (19 minutes)
